Sunshine Cottage

Established in 2001, the Sunshine Cottage is a home that represents the past, the present, and the future.  Originally built as in 1926 as a single family home in historic Amarillo, the house has grown up along with the many children it has been home for.

 

When the Eveline Rivers project purchased the home, it renovated all 4,400 square feet with new paint, fixtures, walls, HVAC systems, plumbing, insulation, and love.  The home is now separated into 5 secure, safe and comfortable separate living areas that vary in size.  Each living area has its own private bedrooms, bathrooms, and kitchen.  Most of the improvements, as well as the labor, was donated by businesses and individuals throughout the Amarillo Community.

 

Each family that resides at the Sunshine Cottage is a family that is moving towards the future.  Each family is a single parent family, with typically between 2 and 5 children. And each single parent is striving to provide a better life for their children.  These are determined parents, who not only work regular jobs, but also attend College.  Most attend Amarillo College, which is just a few blocks away.

 

The Sunshine Cottage provides a way for these single parents to provide an affordable, safe, comfortable place to live, that is close to school, so they can improve their lives by maximizing their family time, as well as their personal education.

 

The determination for improvement that these parents have is instilled in their children, who are encouraged themselves to get good grades, graduate School, and achieve a college education.

 

So, our little cottage, built in 1926, is helping to build families for generations yet to come.
